Chemical Spill

chemicalAny hazardous chemical or radioactive material spill should be reported immediately to the public safety department and the Decatur Fire Department.  When reporting, specify the nature of the spill and exact location.

The key person on site should vacate the affected area at once and seal it off to prevent further contamination of other areas until the arrival of Public Safety personnel or other authorized authorities.

Persons who may be contaminated by the spill should avoid contact with others as much as possible, remain in the vicinity and give their names and other information to authorities. Required first aid and cleanup by specialized authorities should be started at once.

If the spill occurs in a building, follow evacuation procedures. As may be necessary, follow the instructions of Public Safety officers or other authorities to evacuate part or all of the building.
